Typical Arsenal bows out of Galilean satellite League with a whimper

Arsine Wenger’s final European tie to blame of The Gunners panned enters terribly acquainted style. They must have simply won the primary leg against Athletic capital of Spain at The Emirates last week, there’s little query that. They vie with a person advantage for eighty minutes, and had possibilities aplenty to place the sport to bed. Before Alexander Lafayette finally put them ahead on the hour-mark, they should have already been 2 or 3 goals up, at the very least. Still, they looked like they would be taking an advantage back to the Spanish capital. It wouldn’t be Arsenal without a defensive collapse though, and sure enough, a comedy of errors at the back ten minutes from time allowed Antoine Griezmann to pull through and score the all-important away goal.
Arsenal was still very much in the tie last night, and had large periods of possession in the first half. Diego Simeone’s men were expectedly organized and stubborn, but the likes of Must Oil and Aaron Ramsey were seeing a lot of the ball. The first half seemed sure to end goalless, before a lapse in concentration in the second minute of injury time. Hector Ballerinas was caught out of position, and Griezmann played the ball through to Diego Costa. Arsenal’s familiar adversary held off backtracking Ballerinas like he was a little boy, and slammed the ball past David Ospina to score at the worst possible moment, from the visitors’ point of view.
Arsenal pushed and pushed in the second half, but it was t no avail. The star players didn’t deliver when it mattered most, and no real clear-cut opportunity was fashioned in a pretty eventless 45 minutes. Both the fans and the players were roaring for a fitting send-off for Wenger when the news of his departure after 22 years at the club was announced two weeks ago. Last night though, they pretty much went out with a whimper.
Last year was the first time they had failed to qualify for the Champions League under the Frenchman’s management. They will now not be in Europe’s elite competition once again next year. Their only hope was to win the Europa League and secure automatic qualification. They are placed 6th in the Premier League at the moment, fourteen points behind Spurs with just three games to go. It is mathematically impossible for them to overhaul that margin.
It’s been the story of Wenger’s time at the club slightly over a decade now, with the club fashioning opportunities to win trophies, but then falling at the difficult hurdles, when it matters most. Flashy football going forward hasn’t led to too many goals, while a defensive error has always been around the corner. This is exactly what happened over the two legs against Atletico.
While it’s terribly unhappy for the fans to visualize Wenger going out together with his head overburdened, his exit is that the smartest thing to happen to the club in an exceedingly lasting. They will finally begin anew, with a replacement direction and purpose, and revived optimism. All eyes are going to be on the recent seat in North London throughout the summer. Arsenals do have a really robust team at the instant, and therefore the backline is that the solely space that basically must be reinforced. Whoever comes in won’t have a straightforward job on his hands by any means that, however one will feel that the sole means The Gunners will go straight away is up.
