Facebook Has Removed Scraper Websites to Avoid Spam Permanently

Facebook has taken some great steps to avoid spam permanently. It is now targeting promotional post which contains a link back to low-quality ads which retract audiences back to the websites which contain copied content.

Facebook even added this announcement as a part of a pre-existing announcement.

Here is an excerpt of the statement which Facebook issued to its audience,

“Starting today, we’re rolling out an update so people see fewer posts that link out to low-quality sites that predominantly copy and republish content from other sites without providing unique value. We are adjusting our Publisher Guidelines accordingly.”

On further inquiry conducted by TechCrunch, they issued a statement:

“Today it exclusively told TechCrunch that it will show links less prominently in the News Feed if they have a combination of this new signal about content authenticity along with either clickbait headlines or landing pages overflowing with low-quality ads.”

Basically, Facebook is banning links which are redirecting traffic to websites known as the scraper sites or just scrapers.

Why are they call scrapers?

They are called scrapers because these websites are bots which help in scraping (copying) content from other relevant website platforms from around the web and then publish it on their own website.

The bots are capable of creating a heavy traffic on a website and that ultimately results in pushing behind Google’s own bot to adequately crawl the website so it can index it. It is one of the many reasons why most website platforms show 404 Page Not Found response code when you click on a link.
